I can't believe it's already the middle of January! Life has been a whirlwind the last few weeks, so I apologize for not updating my blog yet this year :) There really has not been much to report...I am still enjoying being engaged and am now beginning the wedding planning process. SO many details...and I love every one of them! Those of you who know me, know that I am a planner at heart and that I receive a sort of sick joy from little details haha. So I know that I will definitely enjoy the planning process.
I am also very excited about the preparing process. Because while all of the girly details of planning a wedding are fun, it's important to remember that I am preparing for a marriage. I want to be a godly wife- I want to be loving and patient, kind and supportive, selfless and prayerful. And that is going to take a lot of prayer and help from the Holy Spirit. I have sweet friends who are going to help me along the way, who have already been an encouragement and a challenge to me. And I also have an amazing and godly fiancée who will help keep me focused too :)
We will do counseling like most couples do, but I am excited about possibly doing some of that counseling with an older, wiser couple in our church. I think there is so much value in hearing from couples who have been married for awhile and know more of the joys and struggles of marriage. It will be a great opportunity to get to know them better, as well as glean from their wisdom.
Mike and I have also started a Promises journal. I'm really excited about this. We are filling the journal with the promises of God that we come across in our quiet times, Bible studies, etc. Then we will have sort of a reference book to look back on throughout our marriage. I am excited to see the promises that God reveals to us both and to see what a blessing it will be in the coming years.
There will be lots to do and lots to prepare for in the next few months, so if you think about it, we would really appreciate your prayers. More than anything, we both want this process to glorify the Lord. We want His name to be praised in our relationship, our decisions, and our lives. The Lord has been immensely good to us both, and we are excited about the things He is placing on our hearts as we begin our lives together.
I'm so encouraged by you Erin. I love seeing the way you are keeping the Lord first even in the planning process. More importantly I love that you and Mike are already keeping Him first as you prepare for your life together. You are a great friend for living such an important example to those around you. Love you girl. See you soon.
ReplyDeleteI loved the planning part too! I kind of miss it. I bet you've already had a lot of people recommend books to y'all (we had about 10 books given to us that weren't part of the pre-marital counseling) and one book that we really got a lot out of is "When Sinners Say I Do" by Dave Harvey.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Erin! This is such an exciting time, enjoy every bit of it! :)
